2XU Local Legend - Malvern
When and why did you first encounter 2XU?
Alexandra has been training over 20 hours per week preparing for the Australian National Championship and her first International Championship. At the same time, she was going through a major growth spurt when her knees were so sore that she couldn’t complete any of her jumps or leaps, let alone stand on her knees which is vital for training. Her doctor suggested trying compression gear, and research revealed 2XU is the best option. As soon as Alex started wearing 2XU Compression, problems with her knees were much less noticeable. This was over 2 years ago.
What was your first purchase?
2XU Compression Long Sleeve Top, full length Compression Tights, Spray Jacket and Socks. The Australian Team uniform is also supplied by 2XU, when meant Alex was also using a blue 2XU wind breaker, long sleeve top and pants for every Australian Team appearance.
What was your feedback to the garment?
All items were extremely good quality. They didn’t restrict any gymnastic movements and was available for kids thanks to XXXS sizing which is critical for rhythmic gymnasts as they are very skinny due to sporting requirements. All this said, Alexandra could find a perfect fit, which is typically a problem.
What is your proudest sporting accomplishment?
3 x Gold and 1 x Silver medallist at Australian Championships, GOLD medallist at International Tournament ‘Vitry Cup’ in Spain and Silver medallist at Trans Tasmanian Championship this year. 3rd time consecutive 1st place All Around Champion at VICs State Competition, nominee for the ‘Best International Gymnasts’ of the Year Award.
When did you first set yourself a goal to achieve this, and why?
Alexandra is a perfectionist. Sometimes this takes her 1001 times to repeat an element from her routine in order to master it, but eventually she gets it absolutely best in class. Her ultimate goal is Commonwealth Games and Olympics to be able to represent Australia, but before that, to prove that she is the best, which means winning many other competitions along the way.
What role did 2XU play in this journey?
2XU helps Alexandra during her training which is a vital part of any gymnast’s journey to the top. 2XU Compression provides necessary support to muscles and definitely speeds Alexandra’s recovery process after 4-5 hour training. It’s very comfortable to wear, easy to wash, fast to dry and wide selection of sizes which is very important.
What is your advice to others considering a challenge like this?
Train like there is no tomorrow. Do NOT feel sorry for yourself, and once you’re on the pedestal – remember that you’re a winner while you’re standing on it. Once you step down – get back to training to achieve the next new goal. The previous win should be forgotten, and all focus placed on what lies ahead.
What is yur favourite 2XU piece of apparel?
Full length Compression Tights, black with silver X branding. They’re very comfortable especially when the training is long. They also look very cool and create an overall stylish, sporty look as well!
Why do you choose 2XU?
2XU is the best option for Rhythmic Gymnastics available on the market. It feels great; it does not limit any movement and or get in the way of apparatus which is also very important.
What is next for you on the sporting horizon?
Next for Alexandra is preparation for the Australian Championship which will be happening here in Melbourne for the first time since 2008. It is very exciting to perform in front of your home crowd but also much more demanding as well. Next year Alex will also make two International trips to see how her mastery skills are scored against world level gymnasts.
