Where is your favourite place to train?
Port Phillip Bay NW 3m + swell, 35 knots wind +
What is your favourite 2XU garment? When do you use it and why?
2XU Compression tights are a must-have piece of clothing when training in Melbourne, particularly over the colder months. They keep the sun, wind and frost off the legs and improve your recovery time for your next hard session.
What is your favourite training accessory?
Other Peak Adventure training athletes - training is much more fun with others.
What has been the toughest experience in your career and what did you learn from it?
Lake to Lighthouse in New Zealand in 2010. I learnt that nothing can substitute for hard training. Ninety minute training runs will not cut it when it comes to a 46km, 5 hour + trail run leg.
What’s the most common training mistake you see on the circuit? Any suggestions on how to avoid it?
Over training and not training on your weakness and working on improving your skills. Your heart rate does not always need to be going at 100% during training.
What motivates you to train and race harder?
Life is short (1982 - ????) Make the most of that little dash.
Describe your diet/meal plan leading up to a big race:
Fresh and healthy, non-processed foods.
How do you balance your training and racing life with life outside the sport?
If I were a clown, I could juggle five balls all at the same time while walking along a tightrope.
What type of nutritional supplement do you find most helpful (either for training or competition)?
Hammer Nutrition Perpetuem.
Best and worst thing about being a professional athlete:
Best thing: eating lots of food and traveling.
Worst thing: early mornings and feeling sleepy.
In five years time, I'll be:
Still wearing my 2XU Compression tights and socks out to dinner and the movies - I’m sure it will have come into fashion by then.
