When and why did you first encounter 2XU?
I bought my first pair of Compression Tights in 2008 - I had lost a lot of weight and finally thought I was worthy of wearing a pair!
What was your feedback to the garment?
I loved them instantly. I wore them mostly in the gym - I had not started running at that stage.
What is your proudest sporting accomplishment?
Completing the Melbourne Marathon 2013 in under 4 hours. It was my third marathon in 14 weeks, and only just over one year from when I first started running.
When did you first set yourself a goal to achieve this, and why?
I have been running off and on since my late 20's, but never more than 10kms and on a very irregular basis. My motivation for running was always weight loss, but I tended to get niggling injuries and never maintained a regular routine. Around five years ago I found myself very overweight and generally unhealthy. I started serious dieting and after some weight loss, a regular exercise routine. Eventually I lost 50kg, but my running pattern remained irregular. Last year I turned 40 - I wanted to achieve something big and I convinced myself I could run a marathon in under 4 hours.
I was so determined that I started running on a regular basis in July 2012. I ran my first half marathon 3 days after turning 40. So my aim was to complete a full marathon in under 4 hours, before I turned 41. On 7 July 2013, I ran the Gold Coast Marathon in 4:10:20. It was never the plan to run a second, but my home town marathon was 7 weeks later and I figured I'd already done the training. So, I ran Adelaide Marathon on 25 August 2013 in 4:00:22. Although it was a fantastic time for such a difficult course, I was devastated I hadn't quite achieved my original goal.
Melbourne Marathon was 7 weeks later. I knew it would be a push, but I desperately wanted to achieve my goal. It was my birthday weekend and I convinced my hubby to take me to Melbourne for one last crack. Two days after my 41st birthday I ran Melbourne Marathon on 13 October 2013 in 3:59:26. Running into the MCG knowing I'd finally achieved what I'd set out to do was truly a sense of accomplishment.
What role did 2XU play in this journey?
I have only worn 2XU in all 3 marathons – a 2XU Run Tee, Compression Tights and Run Cap. I feel comfortable, and they are practical for the sport.
What is your advice to others considering a challenge like this?
Do the training, there are no excuses when you commit to training for a marathon - it was hot, cold, raining or I had a late night just dont cut it. Also listen to your body. I have had lots of little niggling injuries along the way, but I had to attend to them promptly with physio treatment and rest when required.
What is yur favourite 2XU piece of apparel?
I couldn’t live without my Compression Tights, and boy do I love that they now come with coloured logos! Needless to say I own every colour.

What is next for you on the sporting horizon?
The New York Marathon 2014 and yes, I will be waving the 2XU flag.
