ARNIE LAY
2XU Local Legend - Hawthorn
When and why did you first encounter 2XU?
2009. I started running and realised after doing my 5km event I was starting to get into it. I value recovery and looking after my body, so 2XU came into the picture.
What was your first purchase?
2XU Elite Compression Tights.
What was your feedback to the garment?
It may sound cliché but I noticed responsiveness in my first run (felt more powerful, quicker and compact). This in turn, boosted me mentally and gave me more confidence in running harder.
What is your proudest sporting accomplishment?
Can I name two? 1. Everest Base Camp Trek 2. Melbourne Marathon (Full).
When did you first set yourself a goal to achieve this, and why?
For the Everest Base Camp Trek I have always been fascinated with mountains, so I thought, why not head to some of the most epic mountain ranges in the world!
For the Melbourne Marathon I set myself this goal in 2011 but only did it in 2013. For me, it was a goal to achieve self belief and to prove to myself that any hardships I've faced have been first world problems (and put into perspective).
What role did 2XU play in this journey?
2XU Compression Tights assisted with training and recovery. I also have a 2XU Tri Singlet with pockets (great for holding gels).
What is your advice to others considering a challenge like this?
Buy quality garments from companies such as 2XU, who invest in the science and technology to create these. Aside from wearing the garments and having a base level of fitness to consider similar challenges as above, a large part of it requires mental resilience and pushing yourself to new limits. Remember - pain is temporary, quitting is forever.
What is yur favourite 2XU piece of apparel?
2XU Elite Compression Tights.
Why do you choose 2XU?
Knowing that the products are the real deal and they genuinely advance human performance. They're also comfy and look the part. Rocking a pair of 2XU Compression Tights boosts confidence!
What is next for you on the sporting horizon?
Machu Picchu trek (Peru), Summiting Mount Kilamanjaro (Tanzania), Trekking the Annapurna trail (Nepal), another triathlon, and another marathon (overseas).
