• 2XU appointed Official Compression Partner of PGA Australia

2XU Compression has staked its claim on yet another powerful performance market.  This time, we've entered the world of golf, and right at the top thanks to a new appointment as Official Compression Partner of the prestigious Professional Golfers Association of Australia (PGA).

The comprehensive three year deal will see 2XU’s highly acclaimed Compression apparel offered to PGA Members at priority partner pricing and retailed at major industry events including the Emirates Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola.

Following 18 months rigorous product research, testing and development in consultation with leading industry bodies like the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and the PGA itself, 2XU’s official appointment runs alongside the launch of a new 2XU Elite Compression Golf Top; the first of its kind on the market.

According to Brian Thorburn, PGA CEO, 2XU’s performance pedigree and thorough consideration of the golfing code were integral to the alliance.

“2XU is widely regarded as a leader in the development of this technology and the PGA was very happy to partner with them and assist in driving this new product into the golf channel,” said Thornburn.

“From the significant performance benefits we have identified, we anticipate rapid adoption from PGA Members and golf consumers alike.”

“The considerable time, research and investment we’ve put behind our new Elite Compression Golf Top makes this PGA partnership particularly significant for us,” said 2XU Director of Sales and Marketing Aidan Clarke.

“Working with some of Australia’s leading authorities in golf has made this project an exceptional exercise,” he said.  “This Top is undoubtedly one of the most evolved garments we’ve ever released and we know the PGA’s support and endorsement will only magnify its adoption out on the green.”

PGA member and former AIS Head Coach - Golf, Mark Holland, was a key player in both the development of the new Top, and aligning the two performance brands.

“It’s incredibly exciting,” said Holland.  “The future of sports apparel is sports-specific, uniquely engineered products for training and competition, and 2XU’s new golf compression apparel does just that.”

Widely revered golf-specific physiotherapist Ramsay McMaster and Q-Golf Founding Director Ryan Lumsden were equally involved in the design process.

“I’d recommend any golfer heads into a 2XU retailer with their 7 Iron when trying the Top on,” said McMaster.  “The Top’s effects on posture and swing are significant, real and immediate.”

According to Lumsden, “Through improved activation of the muscles required to support the swing, the new 2XU Top enhances postural awareness, which in turn can improve swing dynamics.”

Huge congratulations to 2XU Ambassador Massimo Cigana, who successfully defended his Laguna Phuket Triathlon (LPT) title yesterday, marking an unprecedented third victory for the Italian Triathlete in the competition.

Cigana smashed the field with an impressive bike and a solid swim-run - he's the first athlete to win the race 3 times; placing him ahead of two time winners Craig Alexander and Mike Pigg.

Speaking to the Phuket Gazette, a very composed Cigana expressed satisfaction with his race.

"This was my kind of weather – perfect for me. The course is beautiful, but quite difficult and I really had to push going over last part of the run. My bike split time was good and my ankle injury didn't flare up, so I'm very happy to have won my third title," he said.

Cigana will spend a week recovering in Phuket before taking on the longer Ironman 70.3 event next week.

  • 2XU's Katya Crema skis to victory at the Aus National Championships

    24 Aug 2011   /  Ski Cross , Katya Crema , 2xu athlete   /   0 Comments   /   Comment

2XU Ambassador and ski cross superstar Katya Crema competed on home soil over the weekend at the Australian National Championships/Australia NZ Cup Ski Cross Event, Mt Hotham. Katya was on fire on the slopes as she scored a 1st place on the Saturday and a 2nd place on the Sunday. Check out Katya's race report below!

The Australian National Championships / Australia New Zealand Cup Ski Cross event was held at Mt Hotham last weekend. Like in the past, the event attracted a number of international competitors to Australia for the race. Included in the field this year were athletes from Japan, America, Switzerland, Finland, New Zealand, and of course Australia.

My major competitor this year was World Cup racer Fanny Smith from Switzerland, who had a World Cup victory last season and is currently ranked number three in the world.

A few days before the race we battled extreme weather conditions, with torrential rain almost wiping out the entire course before the races even started. Fog and high wind also prevented us from training on the course, so instead we just trained in the start gate. Luckily by Saturday the storm had passed and we finally saw the sun, giving Hotham a chance to build what turned out to be a fast and technical race course with plenty of big rollers, jumps and banked turns.

Being the first race of the southern winter season and the only ski cross event in Australia, I was very excited to be racing again on home turf. It’s always great to come home from a 4-month World Cup season in Europe / North America, and test out your skills on Australian snow.

On day one I qualified in second position, two tenths of a second behind Smith. I made my way through the quarter and semi finals, finding myself in the final head-to-head with Smith, a Japanese competitor and another Aussie. With a fast start, I managed to take the lead at the top of the course and maintained it all the way to the finish line, feeling Smith on the tail of my skis the whole way down. I crossed the line in first, and as you can imagine, I was very excited to have beaten such a highly ranked world-class competitor. A very proud moment for me!

On day two, I had another great day of racing however couldn’t manage to beat Smith to the finish line in the final, and finished in second place.

Overall, a very successful and enjoyable weekend of racing in the sunshine. I finished with a first and a second at the Australian National Championships…not a bad start to the season! It feels great to take the National title again, making me Australian National SX Champion two years in a row.

I am now on my way to New Zealand where I will be competing in the New Zealand Winter Games. This event is held every two years, and attracts a large number of international competitors. The ski cross will be held in Cardrona, which is renowned for being a world cup standard course. Looking at the way the snow season is shaping up in NZ, I might even get a few powder runs in while I’m here!

Go get em Katya at the NZ Winter Games, 2XU are behind you all the way!
