Jamie's Journal-10 Days to Kona: Day 7

2XU's Co-Founder/Director and Head of Product Development Jamie Hunt, is lining up for his first IRONMAN (IM) World Championships (Kona, Hawaii) on October 13.  In the M40-44 category; Jamie made his full IM debut in Melbourne earlier this year - not only finishing in a cracking time of 8:58:06, but winning his Age Group.  While Hunt originally left the circuit to establish 2XU; he's now back and determined to show what his highly acclaimed technical 2XU Compression + Triathlon garments can do.  Starting Wednesday October 3 to race-day eve, Jamie will be checking in with a daily journal entry.

Here's DAY 7:

Monday here, 5 days to Race Day. It's amazing to come back to Kailua Kona after two days on the other side of the island and see how the population has grown.  It must have doubled!  There are road jams everywhere, all the sports drink companies are setting up their stands along Alii Dr, sponsor banners are hanging up all over the place - race week has definitely arrived.  It's true triathlon heaven.  Even if you weren't racing, you would have a ball sampling all the giveaways and checking out the new gizmos.

I popped into the Race Expo today.  It was great to see 2XU so well represented - we've already sold through loads of key items.  In saying this, I'm thrilled to see so many athletes out training in our 2XU Compression Tri Short and look forward to winning the annual 'Kona Clothing Count' again this year - making it five in a row.

Just arrived back from an hour on the bike.  I didn't have any fluids all day, so felt a little flat, but definitely plenty of strength.  Note to self - be sure to eat and drink well the next five days!

Tomorrow will involve a swim, run, massage, the NZ Team Breakfast and Parade of Nations in the afternoon.  Lots of great photo opportunities, so stay tuned. Until then...

Aloha,

Jamie
