2XU's Co-Founder/Director and Head of Product Development Jamie Hunt, is lining up for his first IRONMAN (IM) World Championships (Kona, Hawaii) on October 13. In the M40-44 category; Jamie made his full IM debut in Melbourne earlier this year - not only finishing in a cracking time of 8:58:06, but winning his Age Group. While Hunt originally left the circuit to establish 2XU; he's now back and determined to show what his highly acclaimed technical 2XU Compression + Triathlon garments can do. Starting Wednesday October 3 to race-day eve, Jamie will be checking in with a daily journal entry.
Here's DAY 9:
Today I had the opportunity to grab Cameron Brown; 11 Ironman Champion, 2XU Ambassador and one of my life-long best mates for a quick chat about how he's feeling for this year's race. He's a consummate Professional - highly respected across the industry and a true role model for young and accomplished athletes alike. I'm hugely appreciative of him time and wish him well for this year's race (there's talk of it being his last Kona campaign):
So Cam, this will be your 13th World Championship race in Hawaii. What kind of shape are you in right now?
I’ve just come from two months in Boulder, Colorado. I did some great training with two Aussies Josh Rix and Chris Leigh, and we got stuck into the training week after week. It was a top eight weeks, and my form has been really good leading up to this year’s race. I now just need to stay away from my family the next couple of days, as they’ve all been really sick. I want to avoid that at all costs!
Who would you name as the top five guys at the front of the field this year?
Oh – there’s a lot of Aussie boys. There’s Chris McCormack, two-time World Champion, Craig Alexander, three-time World Champion, Pete Jacobs – another Aussie boy. Then you’ve got the Germans with Andreas Raelert and his brother Michael Raelert, Sebastian Kienle who just won the World 70.3 Championships a month ago, and there’s a whole host of others; Marino Vanhoenacker from Belgium and many many more Europeans that will be right up there in the mix.
And most importantly, what clothing will you be wearing on race day?
Oh I’ll be wearing my 2XU triathlon race kit of course – some really light weight fabrics have been used in the Singlets this year which will be helpful in the heat. The Shorts are great as well - they’re incredible light weight which is beneficial. Then my 2XU Compression Shorts for running – hopefully they’ll save my legs for the 42km marathon!
