2XU's Co-Founder/Director and Head of Product Development Jamie Hunt, is lining up for his first IRONMAN (IM) World Championships (Kona, Hawaii) on October 13. In the M40-44 category; Jamie made his full IM debut in Melbourne earlier this year - not only finishing in a cracking time of 8:58:06, but winning his Age Group. While Hunt originally left the circuit to establish 2XU; he's now back and determined to show what his highly acclaimed technical 2XU Compression + Triathlon garments can do. Starting Wednesday October 3 to race-day eve, Jamie will be checking in with a daily journal entry.
Here's DAY 2:
Hi guys. Arrived safely to Kona late yesterday afternoon. Our accommodation is a little cottage on Alii Dve, right on the rocks. We then headed up to supermarket for the big weekly shop, and while there ran into Ironman legend and fellow Kiwi Jo Lawn with her husband Armando; a top Age Grouper and good friend. Armando will undoutedbly be pushing me along on race day as he did in Melbourne!
This morning's two hour ride was a nice roll out past the airport. Along for the ride were Ironman greats Cameron (Cam) Brown, Jo Lawn, former ITU competitor Eneko Llanos and 2XU's very own Aussie poster boy Pro Josh Rix. Josh has spent the last six weeks in Boulder, Colorado with Cam and has pulled out some great training times - definitely one to watch on race day. I can tell you he was certainly keeping us honest out on the highway!
The rest of today will involve a little shopping with my wife Suz and our daughters Jess and Emily, then an easy 3km swim on the beautiful course this afternoon - such warm water.
Tomorrow I'm heading out with Cam for a 90 min run - our last 1hr+ run before race day. Definitely looking forward to ticking this one off the list.
Aloha,
Jamie
