2XU's Sharelle McMahon checks in from Delhi
We caught up with 2XU Ambassador and Captain of the Australian Diamonds Comm. Games Netball Team, Sharelle McMahon during her first few days in Delhi…
What’s the best thing about the athlete village? I might let you know this one after I’ve been here a little longer!
What’s the food like? The Dining Hall is AMAZING! It’s huge and has food from all around the world. It’s open 24 hours a day, so we have to be a bit careful though!
How are you dealing with your nerves? I’m not too nervous just yet! We are still about a week out from our competition beginning, so I’m sure they will kick in as we get closer.
Do you share rooms with other athletes? The accommodation is set up in Apartments. The Netball Diamonds have 3 apartments – one for our support staff, and two for the athletes. I am sharing a room with Vice-Captain Natalie Von bertouch and in the other bedrooms are Cath Cox, Bec Bulley, Natalie Medhurst and Lauren Nourse.
If so, who is the most untidy? Probably me!!
What will you be doing to fill in time before your event/match? There are lots of things to do here in the Athletes Village – in fact as I am sitting here, a live band just started playing! There are also games rooms, casual dining, beauty shops etc. The other thing I hope to do a bit of when the Games start is get out to watch some other sports and events.
Are you superstitious? Not really, although my ‘routines’ seem to be getting more rigid the longer I play! For example, I always eat rice on game day, I like to be a bit rushed & don’t like getting to the game too early, I tape my left ankle, then my right, then put on my left sock, then my right, then my left shoe, then my right……that’s not superstitious right…?
What’s the weather like in Delhi at the moment? It is really hot in Delhi at the moment. It is a really dry heat – not too humid
Do you get time to leave the athlete village during the Comm. games? We’re not really sure about this yet, but if we do, it will be very limited
What’s coming up next after the games? We get to have a bit of a break after the Comm. Games! I am then back into training with the Melbourne Vixens for the 2011 ANZ Championships which start in February.
How often are you doing your washing in the Village? Probably too early to say, but we have our own laundry, so will make this much easier. I would assume at least every second day…
What are you missing most from home? My husband, family and friends!
What 2XU item did you pack? I have my 2XU Compression Tights with me which will obviously be very important for recovery as we move through our competition.
Nice work Sharelle – we’re glad you packed your Compression Tights, good luck!
