2XU Counts Down to Kona 2012

With only 10 days until this year's Ironman World Champs in Kona, Hawaii (Sunday October 13), we're gearing up to support no less than 10 incredible 2XU Ambassadors from around the world in this hugely prestigious and grueling annual event.

Among those representing 2XU in 2012, is long distance triathlon legend, 10-time Ironman New Zealand winner Cam Brown. Off the back of yet another hugely successful year, Cam is ranked fourth coming into Kona, and is a real chance to take out the top spot. This year, Cam's Kona preparation included invaluable altitude training in Boulder, Colorado before heading to the Big Island last week. Fellow antipodean Triathlete, Aussie Josh Rix, is in also great form, ranked 35th in Kona Pro Rankings. Josh set a PB at Ironman Melbourne earlier in 2012, and will be hungry to beat it in Kona.

2XU’s German contender is Sebastian Kienle, who comes into Kona ranked sixth. Though this is his first time at the World Champs, and while the conditions in Kona are vastly different from his usual European turf, Sebastian comes straight from a win at Ironman Las Vegas.  Coupled with his rock solid performances this year, Sebastian is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with - look out for him in the bike leg!

Let's not forget our trio from TeamTBB  - some of the hottest favourites for the Kona podium; particularly in the women’s event with Caroline ‘Xena’ Steffen the number one qualifier by a mile!  With three Ironman/ITU long distance wins under her belt for 2012 and after two top-five finishes in the last two years, Xena will be hungry to take the crown.

Hot on Xena's heals will be team mate Mary Beth Ellis, who won her fifth Ironman in August this year. Mary Beth qualifies fifth coming into Kona and will be looking to make her mark in her second World Champs.

In the men’s event, Australia's David Dellow has qualified 25th, after winning the 2012 Ironman Cairns and the 2012 Koh Samui Triathlon after an impressive fifth place in Ironman Melbourne 2012.

And let's not forget our impressive Age Groupers either!  Competing in the M40-44 group is 2XU's very own Co-Founder/Director Aussie-based Kiwi Jamie Hunt (stay tuned for more on Jamie soon), German Jan Schneider and Chilean Jose Luis Gonzales. Jose’s brother Francisco will compete in the M30-34 Age Group.

With such a rich portfolio of athletes on field, 2XU Ambassadors are sure to dominate the 2012 World Championship field in their high performance Wetsuits, Triathlon and Compression apparel.

Many multiplied best wishes to all our athletes competing at Kona 2012!  Keep checking our 2XU News page and 2XU North America Facebook over the next 10 days as we share insider updates on last minute preparation, results and race reports; in particular, tune in shortly for Jamie Hunt's 10 Days to Kona Countdown Diary!
