2XU Ambassador Interview: The Four Musketeers Road to Kona 2011
Team 2XU headed over to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii to cover the annual Ironman World Championship on October 8, 2011.
Ahead of race day, we caught up with 'The Four Musketeers'; Australia's mighty assembly of four age-group athletes from Sydney; keen to illustrate just how 'weekend warriors' represent the true heart and soul of Ironman.
The Four Kona Musketeers - John "Athos" Mergler, Brenton "Aramis" Yates, Andy "Porthos" Reynolds, and Todd "d'Artagnan" Israel - all qualified for the 2011 Kona Ironman World Championship and took to the epic sporting stage with more passion, colour and fun than we've ever witnessed. The Four Musketeers all had amazing races; John Mergler put in a brilliant tactical marathon to reel in his opponent and run on to win his age group.
Todd Israel took out a fantastic 4th in his age group (no doubt the first of many podiums to come), while Brenton and Andy had fantastic debut performances and now have the Kona bug!
