18 2XU athletes to line up for London 2012
With just weeks until the 2012 London Opening Ceremony it’s all systems go for our 2XU Ambassadors who have been fortunate (& talented) enough to qualify! To date, we have 18 2XU Ambassadors from across the globe who can now proudly call themselves Olympians.
Competing in a range of sports from Triathlon, BMX, Sailing, Cycling, Boxing to Hurdles and Soccer, all 2XU Olympians have trained, competed and recovered in their 2XU apparel in preparation for London. It's clear they've had the performance edge over their competitors!
Our newly signed Ambassador Lauren Sesslemann has been called up for the Canadian Women's Soccer Team and 19-year old boxer Jose Ramierz is heading to London to represent the USA in the 132-pound class.
Triathlon looks to be one to watch for 2XU, with Erin Densham (AUS) in stunning form across recent months (a second place finish at the World Cup events in Spain and San Diego and a first at Mooloolaba) while young gun Brendan ‘Kung Fu’ Sexton (AUS) is thrilled be making is Olympic debut this August. Kate McIlroy (NZ) and Vendula Frintova (CR) have also been selected to represent their respective countries.
Kiwi BMX bandit Kurt Pickard will be taking on the fast and furious at the BMX Track – only the second time the Sport has featured at the Games. Fellow Kiwis Ali Shanks and Shane Archbold will also take to their bikes; Ali for the Team Pursuit, while ‘mullet man’ Shane lines up in Track Cycling.
Australia’s Commonwealth Medalist Brendan Cole will make his Olympic debut in the Men’s 400m Hurdles and has also been named for the 4 x 400m relay.
Aussie sailors Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page will hit the water as will New Zealand’s JP Tobin, while Men’s Light Weight Rowing Double Storm Uru and Peter Taylor are in superb form off the back of World Champs success in Munich.
Let's not forget the 2012 Paralympics either (2XU is the proud Official Apparel partner of the APC's London 2012 Team), with 2XU golden girl Jessica Gallagher competing in both Javelin and Long Jump. The Paralympic Games kicks off on August 29; running through until September 9, 2012.
